Since VividCortex launched its database monitoring platform, many users have requested some type of notification system. To address this, we took particular care in building a feature that proactively warns users of potential problems without sending multiple false alerts.
We are excited to announce notifications via email, PagerDuty and VictorOps. This post addresses basic functionalities, but please explore the feature and provide feedback to email@example.com.
What triggers a notification? Our events dashboard records behaviors such as high swap activity, disc faults, replication stopping, mysql server restarts and more. These events are grouped into incidents based on host and type. Depending on your systems, one or more of these may signal that you need to investigate further.
Do I have control over notifications? Of course. The last thing we want is an endless flow of useless notifications, which is why the feature allows you to filter based on host, event, type and level. The notification is based on defined rule filters so you are only notified for the events that you choose.
How do I receive notifications? You will receive notifications through the adaptor of your choice: email, PagerDuty, VictorOps. If you would like to be notified by all three, choose all three, and if you would like an adaptor that we do not currently offer, please let us know. We will do what we can to make it happen!
How often am I notified? You can be notified only once when the incident occurs or at regular intervals until the incident has been closed. The intervals can be between one minute and two hours.
How do I close an incident? The incident will provide a link to the events that caused it as well as a link to close the incident.
Where do I adjust notification settings? Navigate to the settings page –> environment configuration. You will find a tab for incidents subscriptions. This is currently an opt-in feature, so choose your incidents and know even more about what is happening on your production servers.
